In 1932 the LMS built 10 light passenger tank locomotives known as the Stanier Class 2 0-4-4T. These locos were the last to be desiged by the Midland Railway’s school of engineering. An oversight on the design saw them fitted with stovepipe chimney’s to begin with, however they were later fitted with the standard Stanier chimney.
The class were later push-pull fitted and were based at several sheds including Watford Junction, Longsight and Warwick before being withdrawn in 1952. One member of the class managed to survive until 1962.
