Hornby Tinplate O Gauge No. 2 Special LMS Maroon 4-4-0 Class 4P Compound No. 1185 - Clockwork Motion, Aftermarket Box
This is a very nice example of a vintage locomotive model from circa 1929.  Models in this series were some of the first examples of model locomotives being faithfully customised to reflect their real-life prototypes.  The model features a clockwork mechanism that can be wound using the key that is included in the box.  Inside the cab are two pull switched - one locks the drive mechanism to allow it to be wound and then started when on the track.  The other switch changes the locomotive between forward and reverse gears.  A full winding of the spring gives approx. 25 to 30 seconds of motion.  A video has been provided to see the operation of the model.
More information on the history of this model can be found here: https://www.brightontoymuseum.co.uk/index/Category:Hornby_No2_Special_locomotives.
Overview
- Condition: Good overall condition - the paintwork is supposed to be an LMS maroon colour, but it has discoloured with age and looks more brown to the naked eye. There are some marks/chips around the model as you'd expect of an item of this age, but overall it is is very good (close-up photos have been provided to give you an idea of the general state of the finish). There is a small dent and paint chip to the right-hand cab side (see close-up photo).
 - Operational Status: Tested and runs very well in both directions, albeit for short durations at a time (see description above about running time per winding).
 - Original Box: No, supplied in one of our sturdy Footplate storage boxes.
 - Manufacturer: Hornby
 - Model Number: 1185
 - Livery: LMS Maroon
 - Scale/Era: 7mm O Gauge
 - Model Type: Steam Locomotive
