This large 7mm scale model of Birmingham Snow Hill railway station is now offered for sale through Footplate. Measuring 16 feet long by 4 feet deep, it is a substantial O Gauge diorama with real presence, representing the covered platforms at Snow Hill, centred on the platforms 7 and 8 area.

The model was commissioned for Michael Price and its construction was followed in detail on RMweb. The proportions of the canopy, the spacing of the columns and the overall feel of the structure show careful reference to the prototype rather than a loose interpretation.

The canopy is the focal point of the scene. In 7mm scale, structural work is very visible, and here the uprights and roof girders have been assembled neatly and consistently, giving the long platform a convincing sense of depth. The overall length allows the repetition of columns and trusses to read naturally, much like the full-size station.

The platform buildings and brickwork have been handled with restraint. Snow Hill’s distinctive dark red glazed brick is represented in a way that looks appropriate without being exaggerated. The buildings have proper depth rather than flat backscenes, helping the whole scene feel solid and believable. Weathering is subtle and in keeping with a well-kept main line station of the period.

The baseboards are robust and designed to support a layout of this size. At 16ft x 4ft, this is not a small cameo but a serious piece that would suit a dedicated railway room, exhibition use, or a collector looking for a ready-made centrepiece in O Gauge.

Footplate are now inviting offers around £6,000. The layout is currently in situ in Worcestershire and will need to be removed by the purchaser. The station breaks down into four sections for transport.
