Rapido Trains UK’s model of the Class 44 diesel locomotive represents one of the earliest British Railways mainline diesels, often referred to as the "Peaks" due to their naming after mountain ranges. Built in the 1950s by British Railways at Derby Works, only ten Class 44s were made, and they played a vital transitional role in early diesel traction history. Rapido’s N gauge model captures the Class 44 with stunning accuracy and detail. Renowned for their highly detailed, limited-edition brass locomotives and rolling stock, Janick Models are a firm favourite among collectors and connoisseurs alike. Each piece is expertly hand-built, capturing the character and charm of classic British railway design. Whether OO or O gauge, Janick’s uncompromising quality and rarity make their models truly stand out — and sought after.

Hawthorn Leslie and Company was formed by the merger of the shipbuilder A. Leslie and Company in Hebburn with the locomotive works of R. and W. Hawthorn at St.Peter’s in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1886. The company manufactured locomotives to order for main line companies and later had a number of standard designs including 0-4-0 saddle tanks and fireless locomotives.  In 1937 Robert Stephenson of Darlington amalgamated with the locomotive works at Forth Banks to form Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Ltd. By this time Hawthorn Leslie had built 2,783 locomotives.  The newly formed Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns became a subsidiary of the Vulcan Foundry in 1943 and Hawthorn’s 137-year connection with Forth Banks ended.  The Dapol model is based on the 0-4-0 saddle tanks built between 1899 and 1924. They were produced in large numbers and continued in a variety of industrial uses (included Iron works, collieries and power stations) until the early to mid 1970’s. Over 10 locomotives have made it into various states of preservation.

Tekno is a renowned diecast model manufacturer, originally founded in Denmark in 1928 and now based in the Netherlands. The company is celebrated for its highly detailed 1:50 scale models, particularly of European trucks from brands like Scania, Volvo, DAF, and Mercedes-Benz. Backstory Industrial locomotives have always been favourites with modellers, and few have more character than the Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0 Saddle Tank. Compact, rugged, and instantly recognisable, these hardworking little engines were once a common sight in collieries, docks, and factories across Britain. Now, thanks to an exclusive partnership between Footplate and Dapol, this classic industrial will be available in ready-to-run O Gauge for the first time. A Proven Formula The new model builds on the proven specification of Dapol’s O Gauge B4, with a heavy die-cast compensated chassis, sprung axle boxes, and a powerful 5-pole motor with flywheel. A finely detailed injection-moulded body captures the distinctive outline of the Hawthorn Leslie, with rivet detail, pipework, and handrails all neatly reproduced. Delivered from Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows, between September 1967 and December 1968, the new 100mph diesel-electrics were developed from EE’s successful DP2 prototype with the intention of speeding up services north of Crewe to complement the accelerated electric timetable on the southern section of the West Coast Main Line. They were numbered D400-449, later 50001-50050 under TOPS Accurascale's latest release is now in stock but quantities are strictly limited - once they're gone, they're gone.
